  • 2010: the paper “Adaptive Modelling of Users’ Strategies in Exploratory Learning Using Case-Based Reasoning” by M. Cocea, S. Gutierrez-Santos and G.D. Magoulas won the best PhD student paper award at the 14th International Conference on Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information & Engineering Systems (KES 2010), Cardiff, Wales, UK, 8-10 September 2010. 
  • 2009: the paper “Strategies to Minimise the Total Run Time of Cyclic Graph Based Genetic Programming with GPUs” by T.E. Lewis and G.D. Magoulas won a best paper award at the ACM Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference 2009 (GECCO 2009), Montreal, Canada, 8-12 July 2009. 
  • 2008: the paper "A discernibility-based approach to feature selection for microarray data" by Z. Voulgaris and G.D. Magoulas won the best PhD student paper award at the IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Systems, Varna, Bulgaria, 6-8 Sept. 2008. 
  • 2006: the paper "A personalised mobile environment for lifelong learners" by D. Dimakopoulos and G.D. Magoulas won an outstanding paper award at the 4th IADIS International Conference on WWW/Internet 2006, Murcia, Spain, 5-8 October 2006. 
  • 2004: the paper “Building diverse neural ensembles for bioinformatics applications” by G.D. Magoulas won the third prize award of the Medical and Health Care Committee at the European Symposium on Intelligent Technologies, Hybrid Systems and their Implementation on Smart Adaptive Systems (EUNITE 2004), Aachen, Germany, June 10-12, 2004. 
  • 2001: the paper “Improved neural network-based interpretation of colonoscopy images through on-line learning and evolution” by G.D. Magoulas, V.P. Plagianakos and M.V. Vrahatis won the third prize award of the Medical and Health Care Committee at the European Symposium on Intelligent Technologies, Hybrid Systems and their Implementation on Smart Adaptive Systems (EUNITE 2001), Tenerife/ Spain, December 12-14, 2001. 
  • 2000: awarded IEEE Grant for New Researcher to attend and present research work at the IEEE-INNS-ENNS International Joint Conference on Neural Networks, Como, Italy. 
  • 1999: Postdoctoral fellowship of the Greek State Scholarships Foundation to research new approaches to learning in adaptive systems through optimisation.
